US elections: Postal Vote is passé, here is e-vote from Space

The US elections this year is an amalgamation of bizarre. At least if we believe President Trump.  From his point of view the fact that postal ballets are even possible is a murder o democracy and that democratic decisions must be taken by a Republican dominated Supreme Court.

Here is to add to his concern, apparently Texas laws allow Astronauts to vote from space. The lone start state allows for the unthinkable to happen and  NASA Astronaut Kate Rubins Plans to exactly the same.

Rubins is presently in Russia preparing for blast off to International Space station in less than a month. Rubins told AP that “I think it’s really important for everybody to vote” and the if she can  “do it from space, then I believe folks can do it from the ground, too.”

Texas law allows residents – especially living near Houston (read Astronauts)  to vote from space using a secure electronic ballot. The Ground Control relays the ballot to the space station and upon the astronaut making a choice sends it back to the electoral clerk.

Kathleen Hallisey “Kate” Rubins has already been to ISS once in 2016 as a crew member of Expedition 48 and Expedition 49. As an accomplished microbiologist, she became the first person to  to sequence DNA in space.

As a crew member for Expedition 63 and Expedition 64 she is scheduled to launch back into psace along with cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov.
