Covid-19 in White House: POTUS & FLOTUS test positive

The President of United States (U.S.) – Donald Trump and the First Lady – Melanie Trump today, i.e., Friday, October 2, 2020 tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Announcing it on twitter, Trump tweeted, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Aged 74, Trump falls into the highest risk category for serious complications from the disease. On Thursday, i.e., October 1, 2020, Trump returned to white House after a fundraising trip to New Jersey. Although he didn’t interact with media, but he didn’t appear ill.

Taking it to twitter, Melanie trump tweeted, “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

Trump’s physician – Navy Commander Dr. Sean Colney said, “The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”

He further added, “The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions.”

On Thursday night, Trump also said that one of his closest aid and Former White House Communications Director – Hope Hinks has also tested positive. He also said he intends to self-quarantine after reports of Hinks testing positive were out.

She travelled with him on Air Force One to the first presidential TV debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden in Ohio on Tuesday. Hicks also maintains a close relationship with Trump’s daughter – Ivanka Trump and her husband – Jared Kushner.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!” tweeted Trump.

After Trump tested positive, the White House issued a new schedule to reflect several cancelled events, including a fundraiser in Washington and a campaign rally in Florida. The staff at the White House was also informed of the Trump’s test.

This comes at a time when the battle for Presidential poll is gaining momentum between Republican Trump and Democrat Joe Biden. Trump’s most preferred method of campaigning is to speak at rallies in front of thousands of people. But with Trump going into 14 days of quarantine, he would have to look for an alternative. Earlier in May 2020, two White House staffers, including a member of the Navy who serves as one of Trump’s personal valets, tested positive for COVID-19. In July, an employee at white House Cafeteria tested positive.
