Zelenskyy urges G7 leader for air shield, Biden pledges to provide air defence systems

After Russia attacked several cities of Ukraine with 84 cruise missiles, killing and wounding many, Zelenskyy urged the G7 Leaders for air shield

The President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelenskyy today, i.e., Tuesday, October 11, 2022, urged the Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries for air shield amidst renewed Russian aerial assault across Ukraine.

This comes a day after Russia attacked several cities of Ukraine with 84 cruise missiles, killing 19 persons and wounding 64 people.

Addressing the G7 leaders virtually, Zelenskyy said, “I am asking you to strengthen the overall effort to help financially with the creation of an air shield for Ukraine. Millions of people will be grateful to the Group of Seven for such assistance.”

The Prime Minister of Japan – Fumio Kishida cautioned that the current threat of nuclear weapons in the conflict does not at all allow any prediction, but requires serious, close attention.

He said, “For the past 77 years, the world has continued to put a stop to using nuclear weapons. This history of not using nuclear weapons must continue further.”

The Spokesperson for Kremlin – Dmitry Peskov said, “The mood ahead of the summit is well understood, it is easily predictable. The confrontation will continue.”

The United Nations (U.N.) said the bombings may have violated the laws of war and would amount to war crimes if civilians were deliberately targeted.

Meanwhile, the President of United States (U.S.) – Joe Biden promised to provide Ukraine with advanced air systems to help it defend itself. He made the pledge ahead of the meeting over a phone call with Zelenskyy. Biden told Zelenskyy the U.S. and its allies and partners would continue imposing costs on Russia, holding Russia accountable for its war crimes and atrocities, and providing Ukraine with security, economic, and humanitarian assistance.

Taking it to twitter, Biden tweeted,

Reacting to U.S. pledge, Peskov said, “De facto, the United States is already bogged down in this affair and the deliveries will this conflict longer and more painful for the Ukrainian side.”

He further said, “But it’s not going to change our goals and the end result.”

Separately the Foreign Minister of Russia – Sergey Lavrov said Russia is open to dialogue with Western nations on Ukraine. He also said that Russia has not yet received any proposals for a meeting. He mentioned that White House National Security Spokesman – John Kirby is lying about approaching Russia for dialogue. He also stressed that Russia would not turn down a meeting between Putin and Biden at a forthcoming G20 meeting and would consider the proposal if it received one.
