U.S. warns China of sanctions if it supports Russia in Ukraine

The Chinese Ministry of China has accused the U.S. of spreading disinformation while the US warns China for supporting Russia

The United Sates (U.S.) has warned China of consequences if it helps Russia in Ukraine invasion. This comes after media reports of Russia seeking military help from China came out.

The Chinese Ministry of China has accused the U.S. of spreading disinformation. Russia has also denied asking Beijing for military help.

Speaking to U.S. based news channel CNN, the National Security Adviser for U.S. – Jake Sullivan said they were “communicating directly, privately to Beijing that there will absolutely be consequences for large-scale sanctions evasion efforts or support to Russia to backfill them.”

Sullivan further said, “We will not allow that to go forward and allow there to be a lifeline to Russia from these economic sanctions from any country, anywhere in the world.”

The Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry Information Department of China – Zhao Lijjan said China’s stance had always been consistent and that China was playing a constructive role in promoting talks.

Russian President – Vladimir Putin’s Spokesperson – Dmitry Peskov said, “Russia possesses its own independent potential to continue the operation. As we said, it is going according to plan and will be completed on time and in full.”

China has not yet condemned Russian for invading Ukraine. Even when the United Nations General Assembly voted to condemn Russia’s invasion, China was one of 35 countries that abstained. At the same time, China has called for peace without criticising Russia.

Besides, multiple explosions took place in and around Kyiv as Russian forces moved closer to Kyiv.
At least 2 people died and 3 were hospitalized after a residential building in Obolon, a suburb of the capital of Kyiv, was hit by shelling. Several heavy explosions also occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time in Kyiv. These were caused by Ukrainian air-defense batteries targeting either Russian aircraft or cruise missiles.

The Ukrainian negotiator – Mykhailo Podoliak, said that there has been a technical pause on talks with Russia until tomorrow, March 15, 2022. The break is taken to clarify the terms of the talks.
The President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelensky has termed the talks as “difficult talks” with Russia being adamant on its terms. Russia wants Ukraine to never join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), accept Crime as a part of Russia and recognize the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states. Russia has also accused the West of helping Ukraine by supplying weapons to them.
