U.S. to send more weapons to Ukraine worth U.S. $ 820 million

The U.S. $ 820 million ammunition will be a part of U.S. assistance package, announced by Joe Biden during the gathering of NATO leaders

The United States (U.S.) has announced to send 2 National/Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air
Missile System (NASAMS) surface-to-air missile systems, 4 counter-artillery radars, and about
150,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.

The U.S. $ 820 million ammunition will be a part of U.S. assistance package, announced by the
President of the U.S. – Joe Biden during the gathering of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO)
leaders. The package will also include more ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems
(HIMARS).

The weapons will help Ukraine fight the invading Russian forces. Russia has made the Eastern
Ukrainian provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk a focus of its assault. The U.S. has till now provided
assistance to Ukraine around U.S. $ 7 billion since Russian attack.

Thanking the U.S., the President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “I am especially
grateful today to the United States and to Biden personally for the package of support for Ukraine
announced today, which includes very powerful NASAMS – an anti-aircraft missile system that will
significantly strengthen our air defence. We have worked hard for these supplies.”

Taking it to twitter, Zelenskyy tweeted,

While the US. remains the largest contributor to the Ukrainian war effort, other countries have also
stepped-up assistance. Turkey has armed Ukraine with Bayraktar TB2 combat drones. The United
Kingdom (U.K.) has committed more than half a billion dollars in support, including armoured
vehicles, anti-tank missiles, air defence systems, rockets and explosives. Canada has given more
than U.S. $ 200 million worth of supplies. Ukraine has also received assistance from Spain, France,
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, as well as several of its neighbours, including Poland and
Slovakia.

Besides, the Ukrainian army has rejected claims that Russia-backed separatists and Russian forces
had surrounded the key eastern city of Lysychansk, but said heavy fighting was ongoing on its
edges. Russian forces destroyed 5 Ukrainian army command posts in the Donbas and in the

Mykolaiv region with high-precision weapons. They also struck 3 storage sites in the Zaporizhia
region.

Ukraine has requested Turkey to detain and arrest the Russian-flagged cargo ship – Zhibek Zholy
carrying a cargo of Ukrainian grain taken from the Russian-occupied port of Berdyansk. Ukraine
said that vessel is involved in the illegal export of Ukrainian grain.
