Spain records its deadliest day with 838 deaths, total deaths reach 33,331 globally

Spain recorded its deadliest day today, i.e., Sunday, March 29, 2020, with 838 deaths in a single day arising out of Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, taking the total figure of fatalities to 6,528.

The number of confirmed cases in Spain has now reached 78,797 after an increase of 9.1% in one day. The Ministry of Health in Spain has announced to deploy armed forces to help transport the bodies of those killed by the outbreak. The capital city of Madrid is the most affected city recording nearly 50% of the deaths. The Cortes Generales (Spanish Parliament) has also extended the lockdown for 2 more weeks till April, 11, 2020.

Globally, more than 32,183 people have died so far with more than 675,965 reported cases. 1/3rd of the world population is now under lockdown. Europe, United States (U.S.) and Asia have all been impacted by this deadly virus. As far as China is concerned, it reported only 45 new cases on March 28, 2020, as compared 54 a day before. Notably, Saturday was the 4th consecutive day when Hubei Province in China, from where the pandemic started, recorded no new confirmed cases. Apart from this, Malaysia reported 150 new coronavirus cases today, taking the total number of infected people to 2,470, which is the highest in South East Asia.

Singapore also recorded 42 new cases today. Philippines reported 343 new cases, marking the country’s largest daily increase in infections. The capital of Japan, Tokyo reported 68 new cases on Sunday taking the total number of cases to 1,800 and 55 fatalities. The Governor of Tokyo – Yuriko Koike has asked the people to avoid non-essential and non-urgent outings until April 12, 2020.

The President of U.S. – Donald Trump has called off declaring quarantine on parts of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and instead issue a travel advisory for that area after officials had a very intensive discussions last night at the White House with him. 56% of the country’s new infections are coming from the New York City area.

Taking it to twitter, Trump tweeted, “On the recommendation of the White House CoronaVirus Task Force, and upon consultation with the Governor’s of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, I have asked the @CDCgov to issue a strong Travel Advisory, to be administered by the Governors, in consultation with the….”

The message continued in his 2nd tweet, “….Federal Government. A quarantine will not be necessary. Full details will be released by CDC tonight. Thank you!”

Besides, the Prime Minister of United Kingdom (U.K.) – Boris Johnson who tested positive for COVID-19 said that situation will get worse before everything is sorted. He even said that the COVID-19 might last till June 2020. Meanwhile, U.K. recorded 209 deaths in the 24 hours.

A letter written by Johnson, which will be delivered to 30 million households by Downing Street read, “It’s important for me to level with you – we know things will get worse before they get better.”

Johnson further wrote, “We are making the right preparations, and the more we all follow the rules, the fewer lives will be lost and the sooner life can return to normal. At this moment of national emergency, I urge you, please, to stay at home, protect the NHS [National Health Service] and save lives.”

In other parts of the world, Australia has announced that public gatherings will be limited to two people, down from 10, as part of its latest measures in the face of the coronavirus crisis. The Prime Minister of Australia – Scott Morrison has also announced a U.S.$ 680 million welfare package for boosting mental health care, domestic violence support and public health care services for those self-isolating at home and emergency food relief.

In Vietnam, the Government has ordered to lockdown its largest medical centre, Bach Mai Hospital and has demanded thousands of employees and people who recently the hospital to be tested for COVID-19 after nurses and food workers contracted the disease.
