Russia has no interest in fighting the NATO military alliance

Putin says he has no intentions of attacking a NATO country if he wins the Ukraine war

The President of Russia – Vladimir Putin, has dismissed the remarks of the President of the United States (U.S.) – Joe Biden are completely nonsense, and Russia has no intentions of attacking a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) country if it wins the Ukraine war.

He also said that Russia has no interest in fighting the NATO military alliance. Biden had warned last year that a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia would trigger World War III.

As per the Article 5 of the NATO treaty, “The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all.” In case, if Putin attacks any NATO country, the entire alliance would come to the rescue.

The war in Ukraine has triggered the deepest crisis in Russia’s relations with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, where the U.S. deployments of nuclear missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of nuclear missiles in Cuba.

Speaking on the occasion, Putin said, “It is complete nonsense – and I think President Biden understands that. Russia has no reason, no interest – no geopolitical interest, neither economic, political nor military – to fight with NATO countries.”

He stated that Finland’s entry into NATO in April 2023, would force Russia to concentrate certain military units in northern Russia near their border. The officials in Russia and the West have repeatedly spoken of a “new Cold War”, with Russia and China on one side and the West on the other. Putin said if they want to find a common ground then they will have to do so.

The U.S. believes that Putin would not make peace until he knows the results of the November 2023 U.S. elections. He said that the West has failed to understand the extent of the changes ushered in by the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union, which he said had removed any genuine ideological basis for a confrontation between Russia and the West.

Putin added, “The reality is that after the fall of the Soviet Union, they considered that they just had to wait for a bit to completely destroy Russia.”

Putin said that the West wants to cleave Russia apart, grab its vast natural resources and then turn to settle the scores with China. The West said that it has no plans to destroy Russia. Meanwhile, Ukraine has said that it will not rest until every last Russian soldier is ejected from its territory.
