Ukraine is preparing for evacuation corridors in the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha, after Russia announced a temporary ceasefire in these 2 regions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that it would stop shelling for 5 hours to allow people leave the place. The same has been agreed with Ukraine.

A statement from Russian Ministry of Defence read, “Today, March 5, from 10 a.m. Moscow time, the Russian side declares a ceasefire regime and opens humanitarian corridors for the exit of civilians from Mariupol and Volnovakha.”

It further read, “Humanitarian corridors and exit routes have been agreed with the Ukrainian side.”

Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelensky has slammed North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) for refusing to implement a no-fly zone around the country. Zelensky said this would encourage Russia to continue shelling towns and villages.

Criticising NATO, Zelensky said, “Not everyone considers the struggle for freedom to be Europe’s number one goal.”

He said, “All the people who will die starting from this day will also die because of you. Because of your weakness, because of your disunity.”

The Secretary General of NATO – Jens Stoltenberg said that it cannot implement a “no-fly zone” as it’s not NATO’s war and it will put NATO in direct confrontation with Russia. The United States (U.S.) Secretary of State – Antony Blinken also ruled out the possibility of imposing a “no-fly zone”.

Zelensky has also refuted Russian report which claimed that he has fled to Poland. In a video in Instagram, Zelensky conformed he is in Kyiv. The Defence Minister of Ukraine – Oleksii Reznikov said more than 66,224 Ukrainian men have returned from abroad to join the fight against Russia’s invasion.

In Kyiv, a massive convoy stretching out over 40 miles (64km) remains stalled outside the city, but the Ukrainian capital has come under renewed assault, with explosions caused by intense shelling audible in the city centre. There have been reports of fresh fighting in the North-eastern city of Sumy and of rocket attacks on the train station in Kharkiv. The Russian troops have also advanced within 20 miles (32km) of Ukraine’s second biggest nuclear facility.

The President of Russia – Vladimir Putin has signed a new law that would impose prison terms of up to 15 years on people charged with spreading fake news about the war in Ukraine. Following this, it ordered CNN, Bloomberg, BBC CBC and others to suspend operations in Russia.
