MCU Phase 4: Unravelling the next story arc

Marvel has got us hooked over thirteen years, immersing us in a fantasy world full of action, adventure, and drama.

Now with Phase 4 unravelling, it can be easily said that MCU is just getting started.

The Multiverse and Loki connection

With everything at peace at the end of Avengers: Endgame, it seemed that the MCU have had run out of steam.

Then comes Loki and introduces us to the biggest of all Marvel villains: Kang the Conqueror. Then as expected our bittersweet character (with his variant) goes ahead and destabilises the entire sacred timeline.

Afterwards, in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, we are introduced to some more practitioners of magic (and martial arts).

So, what’s next… the answer is a lot more.

November 2021, Eternals

In November we will be told what the most ancient of beings looked like. We had been given a glimpse of this in the Guardians of Galaxy. Remember ‘Knowhere’? it was a severed head of a Celestial.

Now with Eternals we will see who they were and where they are now. There is a decent chance that the Eternals may form a connection with Star Lord and his team. Afterall the Eternals serves the Celestials and Star Lord is at least a half celestial.

However, we do not expect to see multiverse to make a play here. The story will be too involved telling us everything about the Eternals, Deviants etc.

November 2021, Hawkeye

We do not expect this series to contribute too much towards the larder story arc, except may be in ways of introducing some new heroes.

December 2021, No way Home

So, by this time we will know that the earth is safe from all powerful cosmic entities. Timeline distortions will be another matter. We are expecting to see inter dimensional ruse to help settle ownership of Spiderman between Sony and Disney. With multiple Spidy and Spidy villains from across multiple universes there will be enough material to question everything we know about MCU.

We know that this will tie neatly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is coming in March 2022

March 2022, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Enough amount of madness will be there since the No Way Home release. We expect Karl Mordo to play the role of the Villain. Then there can be a connection to WandaVision with the Scarlet Witch playing an antihero.

Chances of Wanda becoming an all-power super villain is always there. We have a different question though. The movie will be incomplete in terms of arc if we do not see a play from Kang. It might just be a post credit scene, but some aspect of Kang is definitely going to be there.

May 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder

From what we know is that this a more romantic story than an action thriller. With Jane Foster returning as her comics persona of “Mighty Thor” ,things should get interesting here. It will also feature the debut of Gorr the God Butcher.

If the larger story arc is to continue, we predict a Celestial tie-in to happen.

July 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The story should also play out in silo except for one important thing that any villain in arc will try to control – Vibranium. Since Shuri is supposed to have a lead role, she might come up with some weapon/technology that may have a lingering impact on the larger story arc. The superhero Ironheart will also make her debut.

November 2022, The Marvels

This should be the movie that should start pointing the clear and present danger that lurks in the larger storyline. With Captain Marvel around, script writers will have complete freedom to get anything from any part of the MCU introduced and commented about. Ranging from Skrulls to Celestial mythology – everything can be on table. However we are pretty sure the story will be more about chemistry between  Rameau and Danvers. The larger story arc may just be hinted around. Ms. Marvel will also make an appearence, after the show Ms. Marvel which also sets up the events of the movie.

February 2023, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

This will be the big reveal for Kang the Conqueror. Everything we have been seeing till date will start to converge.

The larger story arc

We believe the larger story arc will all about Kang’s manipulation of events – eventually revealed in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He should be established as the biggest danger for the Multiverse as we know it. What will be interesting to know is how the Celestials will fit into these schemes.  Do they exist beyond time itself (like the TVA) or also manipulated by Kang?  It would a total waste, if the oldest villains of MCU are forgotten after Eternals. With God like powers they should provide an interesting angle for which Kang would never be ready.
