England launches ‘Grab a Jab’ campaign to provide COVID-19 vaccination

England has launched ‘Grab a Jab’ campaign, where people can get vaccinated at hundreds of walk-in sites.

England has launched ‘Grab a Jab’ campaign, under which the people of England aged 18 years or more can get vaccinated against Coronavirus (COVID-19) without appointment at hundreds of walk-in sites.

The drop-in sites include stadiums, shopping centres, theatres, supermarkets and car parkings. The sites will be publicised locally so that people can choose the location best for them. They can also look up for their nearest site by sharing their postcode on NHS Website. Here’s the link:

With this campaign, National Health Services (NHS), wants to ensure that maximum population gets vaccinated, especially in the wake of Delta variant (also known as India variant) spreading fast.

Taking it to twitter, the official twitter handle of NHS tweeted,

The vaccine hubs are open to people who haven’t got their first jab. They can also provide second jab to people who are over 40 years. As of now, nearly 44 million people in U.K. have atleast got their first jab.

The Newcastle Eagles Basketball Arena, Watford’s Vicarage Road, Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium are the stadiums offering drop-in vaccination. Besides, people booking Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium for vaccination between today, i.e., Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Monday, June 28, 2021, will be offered a free tour of the stadium as part of their visit. They have termed this event as “Gunner Get Jabbed”

Apart from this, the buses will also offer vaccination in Dudley, Colchester, Ipswich and several other towns. As per the latest Government data, 43.87 million or 83.3% of the adult population have received their first jab and 32 million or 60.9% of adults have received both their jabs.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Executive of NHS – Simon Stevens said, “With more than 63 million jabs already delivered by the NHS in England, we’re now in a race to the finish line, and with this new online service, it is easier than ever to find a convenient place to get your vaccine. With every jab give, we are one step closer to our summer freedoms.”

With ‘Grab the Jab’, the Government wants to ensure that all the adults atleast get first dose of the vaccine. The Government also wants to have atleast 65% of adults fully vaccinated by then.

The ‘Grab a Jab’ is important because London has been lagging behind the rest of England in vaccine uptake. Only 83.1% of people over 50 years of age in London have got fully vaccinated. In other parts of England, this figure is above 90%.
