Domestic flights resumed from Today

Airports across the country reported their first post-lock down flight, but with conditions, following relaxations in lockdown 4.0

After a suspension of more than 2 months owing to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) caused lockdowns, the domestic flights in India have resumed operations from today, but with conditions.

The State Government of Maharashtra announced yesterday evening, i.e., May 24, 2020 to resume flight services across its Airport from tomorrow, Monday, May 25, 2020. Cabinet Minister – Nawab Malik said that a total of 25 flights will be allowed to and from Mumbai. The announcement came, after the Chief Minister of Maharashtra – Uddhav Thackrey spoke to the Minister of Civil Aviation – Hardeep Singh Puri.

Speaking on the occasion, Nawab Malik said, “I have just spoken to the Chief Secretary. After discussing the issue with all agencies, it has been decided that 25 flights will operate from Mumbai airport tomorrow. This number will increase slowly.”

Besides, operations to and from West Bengal would commence on May 28, 2020 on a limited scale. Andhra Pradesh has also announced to resume flight services from May 26, 2020.

Taking it to twitter, Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted, “It has been a long day of hard negotiations with various state govts to recommence civil aviation operations in the country. Except Andhra Pradesh which will start on 26/5 & West Bengal on 28/5, domestic flights will recommence across the country from tomorrow.”

He further tweeted, “Starting tomorrow, there will be limited flights from Mumbai & as per approved ⅓ schedule from other airports in the state. Limited operations to West Bengal will commence on 28th May 2020.”

The Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for incoming passengers. As per the guidelines, all passengers will be required to undergo thermal screening for Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms. Asymptomatic persons shall undergo home quarantine for 14 days. Tamil Nadu E-pass has been made mandatory for all passengers. There will be a maximum of 25 arrivals in Chennai. But there’s no limit on number of departures. For other airports in Tamil Nadu, flights will operate as in other parts of country.

Sharing details of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, he tweeted, “As per request of state govt, operations in Andhra Pradesh will recommence on limited scale from 26 May. For Tamil Nadu there will be max 25 arrivals in Chennai but there’s no limit on number of departures. For other airports in TN flights will operate as in other parts of country.”

The Jammu and Kashmir Administration has said that all the travellers to the State will be kept in quarantine centres for 14 days and tested for outbreak. 30 kiosks have been set up at Srinagar Airport for collection of samples. In Assam, asymptomatic passengers will have to undergo combined institutional and home quarantine of 14 days and symptomatic passengers will be taken to the nearest screening camp.

In Delhi, asymptomatic passengers won’t have to undergo home or institutional quarantine. Only those with symptoms would need isolation. For Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), air travellers will be in home quarantine for 14 days unless they are staying for less than a week or if they clear the Coronavirus test earlier. They can get themselves tested for the virus on the sixth day from their arrival and end their quarantine if the results come out negative.

Meanwhile, India reported 6,654 fresh cases and 137 casualties today. Maharashtra continues to be the worst hit State with Mumbai reporting 1,725 cases and 39 casualties today. There are 30,359 cases in Mumbai and there have been 988 casualties. Talking about the State of Maharashtra, there were 3,041 cases which were reported today and there were 58 casualties. The total tally of cases in the entire Maharashtra has rose to 50,231 and there have been 1,635 casualties.

In other developments, Tamil Nadu, the second worst hit State, recorded 765 new cases today, taking the total cases in the state to 16,277. Of this, Chennai recorded 587 cases. Rajasthan reported 286 new cases, taking the total tally of infected people to 7,028 and 163 casualties. Madhya Pradesh also reported 294 new cases, taking the State’s count to 6,665 and 90 casualties. While West Bengal reported 208 cases, Gujarat reported 394 cases.

As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 1,31,868 cases in India and there have been 3,867 casualties.
