3 blasts struck Afghanistan, killing 15

Series of Bomb blasts kill 15 and injuring many in Kabul

More than 15 people have died and dozens injured in 3 explosions that struck the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, today, i.e., Thursday, July 25, 2019.

The first blast happened in a minibus which killed 8 employees of Ministry of Mines and left 27 wounded. Few minutes later, a suicide bomber blew himself up, close to the minibus, killing another 7 people and wounding 20. The last blast happened when a car was blown up by the militants.

The attacks coincide with the visit of Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. – Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, for a meeting with the President of Afghanistan – Ashraf Ghani.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs, as per by U.S. law, is the highest-ranking and senior-most military officer in the U.S. Armed Forces. He is the principal military advisor to the President, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council and the Secretary of Defense.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Spokesperson at Ministry of Interior Affairs, Afghanistan – Nasrat Rahimi said, “First a magnetic bomb pasted to a minibus exploded, then a suicide bomber blew himself near the bus attack site and the third blast happened when a car was blown up by unknown militants.”

Taliban has claimed the responsibility of the 3rd blast but has denied involvement in the 1st and 2nd blast. The Spokesperson for Taliban – Zabihullah Mujahid has said that 9 foreign forces were killed in the car bomb attack. He also said that 2 vehicles have been destroyed. But the Government has not conformed the claim.

Despite holding talks with United States (U.S.) Taliban has been continuously targeting security forces. The U.S is working on a deal wherein it will pull out all its forces from Afghanistan provided they are assured that there will be peace in Afghanistan. However, the general notion is that with U.S. keen on striking a deal for peace in Afghanistan, Taliban has increased the attacks on security personnel in the region.

In a separate incident, another minibus was blown away, killing 7 civilians, including 6 women and a child, in the Eastern Province of Nangarhar. The minibus was heading to a wedding ceremony.

Besides, 35 policemen have been killed in another attack in the Northern Province of Takhar. More than 12 people, including 6 policemen, were injured in 5 hours long battle. The Taliban activists overran the base and destroyed it before leaving.
