Media reports suggest that Saudi Arabia has intercepted a long range ballistic missile fired by Yemen rebels. Earlier reports indicated a loud explosion near the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Later the Saudi Air force confirmed that it was a missile, and that they intercepted it without any collateral damage.

Yemen is being ravaged by a civil war between forces loyal to theSaudi supported government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and those allied to Iranian supported the Houthi rebel movement. Yemen’s Houthi Defense Ministry said the missile attack “shook the Saudi capital” and the operation was successful. It said the attack was conducted using a Yemeni-made, long-range missile called the Burqan 2H.
Saudi Arabia is leading a campaign to defeat the Houthis.
