Biden’s Administration has nearly exhausted funding that can be used to send security assistance through drawdown authorities for Ukraine
The United States (U.S.) has announced another U.S. $ 150 million in military aid to Ukraine, bringing the total financial aid to U.$. 3.8 billion ever since Russia invaded Ukraine.
The equipment includes 25,000 155 mm artillery rounds, counter-artillery radars, jamming equipment and field equipment and spare parts. The package also includes humanitarian assistance, including food, water, medicine and shelter to Ukrainians displaced by the war.
Taken together, these efforts will help strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table. The West is also determined to isolate Russia until it puts an end to its unjust invasion of Ukraine.
With today’s announcement, Biden’s Administration has nearly exhausted funding that can be used to send security assistance through drawdown authorities for Ukraine.
Taking it to twitter, the President of U.S. – Joe Biden tweeted, “Today, the U.S. is continuing our strong support for the brave people of Ukraine as they defend their country. I am announcing another package of security assistance that will provide additional artillery munitions, radars, and other equipment to Ukraine.”
The U.S. Secretary of State – Antony Blinken tweeted, “I have authorized $150 million in additional U.S. arms, equipment, and supplies for Ukraine to reinforce its defenses to counter Russia’s offensive in the East. We stand #UnitedwithUkraine.”
The President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been continuously asking the West for additional weapons to help them defend their sovereignty. Prior to this in April 2022, the U.S. approved two packages of U.S. $ 800 million military aid for Ukraine, which included howitzer artillery systems and related ammunition, as well as armoured vehicles, helicopters and armed drones.
Last week, Biden urged the U.S. Congress to approve an additional U.S. $ 33 billion in assistance to Ukraine. Congress, which has the authority to allocate money for the executive branch, has approved U.S. $ 13.6 billion.
The U.S. has provided a historic amount of security assistance to Ukraine at rapid speed. The U.S. aid along with the assistance provided by the European Union (E.U.) and its Member States and United Kingdom (U.K.) has helped Ukraine survive the war.
Biden is set to speak with other G7 leaders virtually tomorrow, i.e., Sunday, May 8, 2022, ahead of expected “Victory Day” celebrations in Russia, which takes place on May 9, 2022 every year. Victory Day is a prominent holiday on the Russian calendar that marks the Nazi surrender in World War II and is typically celebrated with a huge parade of troops and weaponry across Red Square in front of the Kremlin.
