U.K Secretary of State for Health and Social Care – Sajid Javid has urged Britons to get their COVID-19 vaccine’s booster jabs ahead of Christmas
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, United Kingdom (U.K.) – Sajid Javid has urged the people to get their Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine’s booster jabs as part of a “national mission” to avoid curbs during Christmas 2021.
As of now, 8 million people have taken the booster jab in the U.K. But around 30% of people above 80 years and 40% of people above 50 years in England, have not taken their booster jab.
Javid’s remarks came as national Health Service (NHS) prepares to invite another 3 million people for their booster jab.
Taking it to twitter, Javid tweeted,
COVID-19 booster vaccines have been delivered or booked at every older adult care home in England where safe.

Together we are building our wall of defence across the country to protect those most vulnerable to the virus ahead of winter. #Getboostedhttps://t.co/zORgZt5jYF
Frontline workers, social care workers, anyone above 50 years and those above 16 years with health condition can take the booster jab. They can book their booster jabs from tomorrow, i.e., Monday, November 8, 2021.
Besides, the people can get their booster jab after 5 months of getting the second dose. Earlier, people could take the booster jab after 6 months of second dose. This is done to ensure that U.K. has a good winter.
Speaking on the occasion, Javid said, “We know immunity begins to wane after six months, especially for the elderly and the vulnerable, and booster vaccines will top-up their protection to keep people safe over the winter.”
Javid also urged the youth of U.K. to support their parents, grandparents and loved ones in getting their booster jab and flu jab urgently.
The Minister for Cold – Gillian Keegan said, “As we approach the colder months, it is vital all those eligible have their booster jab to maintain the protection of the life-saving COVID-19 vaccinations. It is great news that we have now offered every care home in England the chance to book in their booster jab and I encourage all residents and staff to take up the offer and join the more than 9 million already boosted.”
According to Government, there are two epidemics currently worth considering. The big one is in school pupils who are still mostly unvaccinated, but at relatively low risk from COVID-19. The second ones are those who are now being offered the booster jab. While the two vaccine doses give people high levels of protection, immunity reduces over time, particularly for at-risk groups.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, England – Prof. Jonathan Van-Tam has cautioned it could be a difficult winter ahead and urged people to get their boosters.
