Amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis going on worldove, US President urged the Prime Minister of India to release the supply of Hydroxychloroquine tablets to the U.S.
The President of United States (U.S.) – Donald Trump has urged the Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi to release the supply of Hydroxychloroquine tablets to the U.S.
During the daily press briefings at White House, Trump said he spoke Modi over phone and that India is giving a serious thought to U.S.’s order. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug used to treat Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Trump said, “I called Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. They make large amounts of Hydroxychloroquine. India is giving it a serious consideration.”
He further said, “After call today with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is giving serious consideration to releasing the hold it put on a US order for hydroxychloroquine.”
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), India, had banned the export of Hydroxychloroquine on March 25, 2020 but had said that certain shipments can be permitted on humanitarian grounds. The U.S. is one of the worst impacted countries. More than 8,496 people have died in the U.S. of the COVID-19 and there are 308,850 reported cases.
Talking about tablets, Trump also said, “I think people should if it were me, in fact, I might do it anyway. I may take it, Ok? I may take it. And, I’ll have to ask my doctors about that, but I may take it.”
He told the press that India makes a lot of Hydroxychloroquine tablets for its billion plus people. The hydroxychloroquine will be released through the Strategic National Stockpile for treatment.
After speaking to Trump, Modi tweeted, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter, “Had an extensive telephone conversation with President @realDonaldTrump. We had a good discussion and agreed to deploy the full strength of the India-US partnership to fight COVID-19.”

Besides, Trump has also warned that U.S. is heading into its toughest weeks as there will be a rise in the number of cases and deaths, owing to COIVID-19.
Trump mentioned, “We’re really coming up to a time that’s really going to be horrendous, probably [a] time like we haven’t seen in this country.”
U.S. reported its deadliest day on Saturday, April 5, 2020 owing to 1,344 deaths in one day. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation on its website Healthdata.org estimates that in the next several weeks, there could be 100,000 to 200,000 deaths in the U.S.
