After the grand swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, the new Council of Ministers have been allotted portfolios as the newly elected Government gets down to work.
The Former President of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) – Amit Shah is the New Home Minister of India. Rajnath Singh, who served as Home Minister from 2014-2019, is now the Defence Minister of India. The Former Defence Minister of India – Nirmala Sitharaman has been made the Finance Minister of India. Nirmala Sitharaman was given the Finance portfolio after the Former Finance Minister of India – Arun Jaitley decided to call it a day and not to take any active responsibility in the newly formed Government, due to his health conditions.
The Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi has kept Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy; Department of Space with himself.
Former Foreign Secretary of India – S. Jaishankar is the new Minister of External Affairs, who replaces Sushma Swaraj. For the records, Sushma Swaraj is not a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Council of Ministers. Smriti Irani who shocked everyone by defeating the President of Indian National Congress (INC) – Rahul Gandhi from Amethi is the Minister of Child and Women Development. Besides, she will also retain her portfolio of Minister of Textiles.
Nitin Gadkari has retained his Ministry and will continue to serve as Minister of Road Transport and Highways. He has also been made the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Piyush Goyal will lead the Railways and Commerce Ministry. Ravi Shankar Prasad, in his new role, will betaking care of Ministry of Law, Ministry of Telecom and Ministry of Information Technologies.
Besides, a new Ministry of Jal Shakti has been created under the leadership of Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Former Minister of State for Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports – Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, former Minister for Women and Child Development – Maneka Gandhi and Former railway Minister – Suresh prabhu have been left out.
