Now “Delhi Corona” app for information on beds in hospitals

The Chief Minister of Delhi – Arvind Kejriwal has launched an app, “Delhi Corona” to help people of Delhi track the availability of beds, ICU and ventilators in private and Government hospitals.

The app comes in the backdrop of increasing number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the National Capital. Delhi is the third most affected place with more than 22,132 cases as of today and 556 casualties. In the past 24 hours, Delhi reported 1,298 fresh cases and 57 casualties. The number of containment zones in Delhi have jumped to 147.

Launching the app in a Digital Press Conference, Kejriwal said, “The cases are on a rise… but we need not panic. We have made sufficient arrangements. We are launching an app today which will give everyone the status of hospital beds and ventilator availability in Delhi.”

The app can be downloaded from Google Play. A website has also been developed which is located at www.delhifightscorona.in/beds. It will be updated twice a day at 10:00 a.m. and at 6:00 p.m. It can also be accessed through a WhatsApp Number +91 880007722.

Issuing a stern warning to hospitals for denying beds to patients, Kejriwal said that if the hospitals refuses to provide a bed, the patient can immediately call a helpline number 1031, which will connect the patient to the Office of the Health Secretary.

“If you go to a hospital and you see that they are denying you a bed, please call on the helpline number – 1031. You will be connected straight to the office of the health secretary and they will assist you,” said Kejriwal.

He even highlighted that only around 2,600 patients are in hospital. Around 7,000 people are recuperating at their homes.

Separately, the Central Government has approved Gilead Sciences Inc’s antiviral drug, ‘Remdesivir’ for emergency use in treating COVID-19 patients. Remdesivir is the first drug to show improvement in COVID-19 patients in formal clinical trials. It was granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) in May 2020.

Meanwhile, India reported 8,392 fresh cases and 230 casualties in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra, the worst hit State reported 2,287 fresh cases and 103 casualties. The total number of cases in the State have reached 72,300 and there have been 2,465 casualties.

Tamil Nadu, the second most affected State, reported 1,091 fresh cases and 13 casualties today, taking the total number of cases in the State to 24,586 cases and number of casualties to 197. Madhya Pradesh reported 137 new cases, taking the total number of cases in the State to 8,420. Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) reported 369 new cases, taking the State’s tally to 8,729. While West Bengal recorded the highest single-day spike of 396 fresh cases, Rajasthan reported 273 new cases. Jammu & Kashmir reported 117 cases and Kerala reported 80 fresh cases.

As per the updates, there are more than 2,03000 cases in India and there have been 5,679 casualties.
