Modi unveils statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Amid the ongoing protest regarding CAA, PM Modi unveiled the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Amid the ongoing protest regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 unveiled at statue of Former Prime Minister of India – Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow.

Made of bronze, the statue was unveiled at Lok Bhawan in the afternoon. The ceremony was held on the occasion of 95th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University in Lucknow. The University will provide affiliation to Government, Semi-Government and private colleges. The State Government has given 50 acres of land for the University.

Modi also launched the ‘Atal Bhujal Scheme’ for better management of groundwater, stressing on the need to use technology which helps prevent wastage of water in various spheres, including agriculture. Separately, he also named the Rohtang Passageway in Himachal Pradesh as ‘Atal Tunnel’.

During his speech, he also urged the farmers to use crops that use less water, as water is a scare resource. He even asked the citizens to not to waste water in their daily household needs. The start-ups were encouraged to come-up with technology that can ensure minimum use of water for various day-to-day requirements. Stating facts, he mentioned that out of 18 crores rural households, only 3 crores rural households have clean and piped water. Over the next 5 years, his Government intends to provide clean and piped water to 15 crores rural households.

Paying tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi tweeted, “देशवासियों के दिलों में बसे पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री भारत रत्न अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी जी को उनकी जन्म-जयंती पर कोटि-कोटि नमन।”

On ‘Atal Bhujal Scheme’, Modi tweeted, “The launch of Atal Bhujal Yojana and key guidelines related to it on Atal Ji’s Jayanti is a fitting tribute to him. As Prime Minister, he made many efforts to improve access to drinking water. We want to harness Jal Shakti for the betterment of 130 crore Indians.”

Highlighting the achievements of his Government, he tweeted, “From a compartmentalised approach to a comprehensive one… Our Government has ushered a paradigm shift in leveraging Jal Shakti for national development.”

Thanking Modi for naming the Rohtang Pass as ‘Atal Tunnel’, the Defence Minister of India – Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The Govt under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi has fulfilled a long pending demand to name the tunnel under Rohtang Pass after Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji as a tribute to the former Prime Minister who took the historic decision of constructing this strategic tunnel.”

Paying tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) – Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “प्रखर वक्ता, युगदृष्टा, अभिजात देशभक्त एवं अद्भुत शब्द शिल्पी भारत रत्न, पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री श्रद्धेय अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी जी की जयंती पर उन्हें कोटि-कोटि नमन। उनका प्रमाणिकता और प्रतिबद्धता से परिपूरित व्यक्तित्व हम सभी भारतीयों को कर्तव्यनिष्ठ नागरिक बनने के लिये प्रेरित करता है।”

Yogi further tweeted, “श्रेष्ठ भारत की संकल्पना को साकार करने के लिए हमें जल संकट की हर स्थिति से निपटने के लिए तैयार होना होगा। इसके लिए 5 स्तर पर एक साथ काम हो रहा है। इस दिशा में अटल भूजल योजना मील का पत्थर साबित होगी। इसके लिए मैं आदरणीय PM श्री @narendramodi जी का आभार व्यक्त करता हूँ। #Atalji”

At the same time, Modi also slammed the protestors who damaged the public property during the CAA and NRC protest. He said that the protestors should understand that rights and duties go hand in hand.

Addressing the gathering, he said, “They (the vandals) should ask themselves was it right. Whatever was torched, was it not of their child’s use? What has happened to those common people and policemen who got injured?”

For the records, 15 people have been killed and over 263 police personnel have been injured across the State.

He said that giving citizenship to those who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to “save the dignity of their daughters”, was another problem whose solution was found by 130 crores Indians.

“With this self-confidence, Hindustanis are entering a new decade. Whatever is left to be done, all Indians are trying to find a solution,” said Modi.

Apart from this, the Rampur Administration has issued notices to 28 people, involved in protests against the CAA and NRC, asking them to explain their position or pay for damage caused to public and private property in tune of Rs. 25 lakhs.

Prior to this, on December 19, 2019, Yogi Adityanath had issued a stern warning to confiscate the personal property of the protestors who are damaging the public property. He said that the loss to the State would be recovered by attaching the properties of those who are indulging in acts of violence. He also clarified that no such protestor would be spared and that the footage of all such people have been captured in the CCTV.
