Modi extends Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojna till November 2020, to benefit 80 crores Indians

PM Modi has extended the benefits of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojna till November 2020 and offered “One Nation One Ration Card”

The Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi today, i.e., Tuesday, June 30, 2020 extended the benefits of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojna till November 2020.

In a televised speech at 4:00 p.m. today, Modi announced that 80 crore Indians will be benefited from this scheme. Under the scheme, each member of a family will be given 5 kgs of wheat / rice free and 1 kg of free whole chana per month.

The scheme will cost Rs. 90,000 crores to the exchequer. If the expenditure of last three months is added to it, the total expenditure will be Rs 1.5 lakh crores.

Addressing the nation, Modi said, “Keeping in mind all the festivals that are coming up in the next few months, this scheme to provide 80 crore people with 5 kg free ration and 1 kg dal per month will now be extended till Diwali and Chhath Puja, or till the end of November.”

In the past 3 months, under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, Rs. 31,000 crores have been deposited in bank accounts of 20 crore poor families. Rs. 18,000 crores have been deposited in bank accounts of more than 9 crores farmers. Simultaneously, the Government also launched Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan to provide employment of labourers in rural areas. The total expenditure under this scheme is in tune of Rs. 50,000 crores.

During his speech, Modi also announced the idea of “One Nation, One Ration Card” which will benefit thousands of migrant workers and their families who had no fixed home or income.

Thanking the taxpayers for paying their taxes on time, Modi said, “The reason you all have paid your taxes is the reason that the poor and migrants have food on their plate today. You are the reason India is not going hungry. On behalf of the entire nation, I would like to thank all the farmers and the taxpayers.”

In addition, the PM Modi stated that as India is geared up for Unlock-2 phase of combating the COVID-19, the nation is also now entering a new season, where there will be lots of rain, which means people will be more prone to diseases. Thus, he urged the people to be extra cautious and take all the necessary precautions.

He also expressed his concern over people’s negligence during Unlock-1 phase where people were seen going out without face mask, not adhering to social distancing norms and personal hygiene. He added that rules are applicable to all the people of the country, whether it is a village Pradhan or the Prime Minister of India.

Modi also highlighted the achievements of his Government in containing the pandemic. As compared to other countries, India is still in a very stable situation. The timely decisions have played a key role in containing the pandemic.

At the end, he said that in the coming times, the Government will continue to take further steps to empower the poor and the needy. Economic activities will also be enhanced, with due precautions in place. He reiterated the pledge to work towards ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) and to be ‘Vocal for Local’.

Meanwhile, India reported18,522 fresh cases and 418 casualties in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra, the worst hit State reported 5,257 fresh cases and 181 casualties, taking the total tally to 1,69,883 cases and 7,610 casualties. Tamil Nadu is the second most hit State reporting fresh 3,949 cases and 62 casualties. There are 86,224 cases in the State with 1,141casualties. Delhi is the next most critical place reporting 2,084 fresh cases and 57 casualties. The total number of cases in the national capital are 85,161 with 2,680 casualties.

As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 5,66840 cases in India and there have been 16,893 casualties.
