Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said the model code of conduct have come into effect as of now. For the election process over 1 million polling stations would be set up this time as against about nine hundred thousand in 2014. Nearly 900 million voters would vote to select representatives from 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country. The election is expected to pit Modi-led National Democratic Alliance against several opposition parties, including the Congress, the Left and regional parties.
PM Modi wecomed the announcement with a tweet.
The festival of democracy, Elections are here.
I urge my fellow Indians to enrich the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with their active participation. I hope this election witnesses a historic turnout.
I particularly call upon first time voters to vote in record numbers.

Congress too welcomed the announcement, calling the EC decision as trumpets of war
बिगुल बजा है, अब जनता की बारी है,
झूठ से लड़ने की, पुरजोर तैयारी है।
झूठों के इस शासन को हम देंगे मात,
कमर कसी है हमने, अबकी जीत हमारी है।।#JeetHogiSachKi pic.twitter.com/trJRMKm0Zt— Congress (@INCIndia) March 10, 2019
