MHA issues guidelines for stranded migrant workers, students and tourists to get back home

Anyone willing to be transported back home will have to be medically screened at source as well as destination and will be kept in a home or institutional quarantine on arrival

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today, i.e., April 29,2020 issued a fresh set of guidelines to let the stranded migrant workers, students, tourists and pilgrims get back home.

The Inter-State movement of these stranded people will be facilitated by the State / Union Territory (U.T.) Government. Anyone willing to be transported back home will have to be medically screened at source as well as destination and will be kept in a home or institutional quarantine on arrival.

The MHA order read, “All states to designate nodal authorities and develop standard protocols for receiving and sending such stranded persons. Stranded migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students will be allowed to move with conditions during the lockdown.”

The transportation of such people will be done via buses, as train and flight services are currently unavailable for passengers. The buses shall be sanitised and the authorities will follow protocols of social distancing while seating passengers in the vehicle. The Government may ask them to install the Arogya Setu app to help the Government track their health status.

Besides, MHA has said that new guidelines to fight COVID-19 will come into effect from May 4, 2020. These guidelines will allow decent relaxations to many Districts. The details of the new guidelines would be shared soon.

Taking it to twitter, the official Spokesperson of MHA tweeted, “New guidelines to fight #COVID19 will come into effect from 4th May, which shall give considerable relaxations to many districts. Details regarding this shall be communicated in the days to come. #coronavirus update #StayHomeStaySafe @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @MoHFW_INDIA”

Talking about the gains of lockdown, the Spokesperson tweeted, “MHA held a comprehensive review meeting on the #lockdown situation today. There’ve been tremendous gains & improvement in the situation due to lockdown till now. To ensure that these gains are not squandered away, the lockdown guidelines should be strictly observed till 3rd May.”

Meanwhile, India reported 1,813 fresh Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and 71 casualties in the last 24 hours, the total of cases in the country has crossed 31,787 with 1,008 casualties.

Of these 71 casualties, 31 are from Maharashtra, 19 from Gujarat, 6 from Madhya Pradesh, 5 each from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), 2 each from West Bengal and 1 each from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, there are 22,982 active cases and a total of 7,796 patients have been cured.

Maharashtra continues to be the most impacted State with a total of 9,318 cases and 400 deaths. Gujarat is the next with 3,744 cases. The third most impacted place is the national capital of the country, Delhi, with 3,314 cases. Madhya Pradesh is the next most affected State with a total of 2,561 cases. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have a total of 2,058 and 1,332 cases respectively.

Punjab has announced a 4-hour relaxation between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., in the curfew imposed in wake of the outbreak. At the same time, the lockdown, as well as curfew, will continue for the next 2 weeks.
