Goa’s Chief Minister, and ex-Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar died at his residence, today evening at the age of 63. The doctors had detected a a cancerous growth just a year ago .
Earlier in the morning his office had called his condition extremely serious.

Parrikar was suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer and had been in constant medical supervision over the last year.
Condolences have poured in from all quarters for his untimely demise. The President of India called Parrikar “An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten “

The opposition too called his demise a great loss to the country with rahul Gandhi tweeting

Respected and admired across party lines, he was one of Goa’s favourite sons.
My condolences to his family in this time of grief.
Manohar Parrikar was a graduate from IIT-Mumbai in who represented Panaji in Goa Legislative Assembly from 1994 to 2014 and then again from 2017 until today. He was Union Defense minister in Modi cabinet from 2014 till 2017, at which point he returned to Panaji to head the state government
