Lahore High Courts’s Justice Qazi Mohammad Ahmad today praised the Army for negotiating peace with a handful of religious zealots who held the capital Islamabad to ransom for last few days. Describing the sit in a ‘catastrophe’ he thanked Army for saving the country. Justice Ahmad further praised sacrifice of another Army officer killed in an unrelated incisent.
As noted earlier by us, the incident again demonstrates total subversion of all institutes to the Pakistani Army, and that the men in Khaki alone remain the custodian of the future of the country. While the civilian government failed spectacularly to handle the situation where a small police party could have restored order, High Courts intervention is now eclipsed by the higher powers of Rawalpindi.
In a country where vaccination to save children is a life threatening job and census is carried out by Armed forces, lack of civilian institutions will plague any development that can remotely be possible. Fauji Foundation- however professionally managed can never become a global conglomerate, and even if it does, in its core will be traditions of a colonial army that never benefited from the advances in civil society.
The Civil Government – has been humiliated once again, people of Pakistan again see army as both the saviors and the real power holders. The more this country changes the more it remains the same!
