The Chief Minister of Delhi – Arvind Kejriwal today, i.e., Tuesday, July 14, 2020 inaugurated the 2nd plasma bank at Government run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Delhi, for treating Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.
The first plasma bank was set-up at The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi. The newly launched plasma bank will be augmented by 3 expert counsellors who will encourage COVID-19 patients to donate plasma. They will also call up the recovered patients and inform them how safe is the procedure of donating plasma.
Kejriwal visited the plasma bank and also spoke to COVID-19 patients at the hospital. Also present on the occasion was the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi – Manish Sisodia.
Speaking on the occasion, Kejriwal tweeted, “After huge success of our first plasma bank, we are launching Delhi’s 2nd plasma bank today at LNJP Hospital.”
The hospital has a total of 15,253 beds, out of which 10,944 are vacant. The hospital has 9,217 dedicated beds exclusively for COVID-19 patients. Of these. 7,069 are vacant.
Delhi is the third most hot place in India with 1,15,346 cases and 3,446 casualties. It reported 1,606 fresh cases and 35 casualties in the past 24 hours.
In other developments, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has said it will lower the price of its generic version of Favipiravir, FabiFlu, to Rs. 75 per tablet for use among patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 symptoms. Bengaluru will be going under lockdown starting tonight. Shops will be allowed to open only from 5:00 a.m. till Noon. As coronavirus cases spike in Bengaluru, the city is being put under complete lockdown for the second time. All public places in Bengaluru, including places of worship, malls and gyms etc will also remain shut in the lockdown period. In addition, 80 employees of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited have been infected with COVID-19.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar – Sushil Kumar has announced lockdown in Bihar from July 16 to end of July 2020. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) has said that the national recovery rate is around 63% and the national fatality rate is 2.6% and is continuously reducing.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that India is considered as the “pharmacy of the world”. About 60%t of the drugs uitilised in the United States (U.S.) are of Indian origin.
Meanwhile, with 28,498 fresh cases and 553 casualties, the total number of cases in the country have surged to 9,06,752 with 23,727 casualties. Maharashtra, the worst affected State Maharashtra reported 6,741 new cases and 213 casualties today. The total number of cases in the State are now 2,67,665 and the number of casualties are 10,695. Tamil Nadu, the second most affected State reported 4,526 fresh cases and 67 casualties, taking the total tally to 1,47,324 cases and 20,99 casualties.
