In a brazen day light assault, top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed today in the Abe-Sard region of Damavand, about 40 kilometers northeast of Tehran.
The Fars new agency said the expert was assassinated while his motorcade was ambushed. As per the reports a car bomb – a Nissan sedan – laden with explosives was first detonated and then a shootout took place between Fakhrizadeh’s security cover and attackers.
Fakhrizadeh didn’t survive the ambush. Fars, Iranian news agency also reported that three to four attackers were killed. The reports do not detail any other casualty or collateral damages.
Iran is already blaming arch rival Israel for the attack – calling it a Tel Aviv sanctioned assassination.

Fakhrizadeh was the only scientist whose name had been mentioned by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli media had announced that the plan for the assassination had failed last year. They also claimed that the name of Fakhrizadeh had been released to Israeli spy agency Mossad through the United Nations
