U.N. asks India and Pakistan to refrain from escalation over j&K status
The Secretary General of United Nations (U.N.) – Antonio Guterres has appealed to India and Pakistan to refrain from any potential escalation over the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir and has urged them to resolve the matter via dialogue.
The Spokesperson for U.N. Secretary General – Stephane Dujarric said in a Press Conference, “His message to all of them has been the same, both publicly and privately, that he remains very concerned about any potential escalation between India and Pakistan over the situation. He appeals to both sides to deal with the issue through dialogue.”
Antonio Guterres has said that his office is available for mediation between India and Pakistan only if both the nations want U.N. to intervene. India has said several times that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internal matter and there is no need of any intervention. But the terror-promoting nation Pakistan continuous to raise the issue at various international platforms to meet its political agenda. Pakistan is known to create unrest across India by financing and protecting various terror outfits in its soil.
Prior to this on Tuesday, i.e., September 10, 2019, the First Secretary in India’s permanent mission to the U.N. Human Rights – Vimarsh Aryan came down heavily on Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and rejected the claims of Pakistan that abrogation of Articles 370 in Jammu & Kashmir will result in genocide
He termed the Pakistan’s charges as “an ill-disguised effort to advance its territorial ambitions.” Besides, he also charged Pakistan for misrepresenting facts.
Refuting the claims of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan – Shah Mehmood Qureshi that India has violated the human rights, Vimarsh strongly said, “Pakistan realises that our decision (to modify Article 370) cuts away ground from under its feet by creating obstacles in its continuing sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.”
Shah Mehmood Qureshi argued that retention of political figures like Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti (both former Chief Ministers of Jammu & Kashmir) could lead to genocide. Responding to his remarks, Vimarsh said, “Some Pakistani leaders have gone as far as calling for jihad to encourage violence in Jammu and Kashmir and third countries, in order to create a picture of genocide which even they know is far from reality.”
Vimarsh also informed the UNHRC that the Government is ensuring that the necessities, food supplies, normal functioning of institutions and mobility and nearly full connectivity are in place.
Besides, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s internal intelligence agency, has informed that Pakistan has secretly released the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Chief – Masood Azhar from judicial custody. The IB has also informed that Pakistan has deployed additional troops along the border near Rajasthan. According to the inputs, Pakistan is planning a terror attack in Sialkot-Jammu and Rajasthan in response to the recent abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir.
