India surpassed Italy’s COVID-19 tally, becoming the 6 most affected country globally
After witnessing another highest single day spike in Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, today, i.e., Saturday, June 6, 2020, India surpassed Italy’s COVID-19 tally, becoming the 6 most affected country globally.
As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, the total number of cases in India now stand at 2,36,657 and there have been 6,642 casualties. The total number of cases in Italy are 2,34,531 and there have been 33,774 casualties.
Globally, there are 65,35,354 cases and there have been 3,87,155 casualties. United States (U.S.) is the worst hit country having 19,36,967 cases and 1,10,708 casualties.
Speaking at Puritan Medical Products in Maine, the President of U.S. – Donald Trump said that India and China will have more COVID-19 cases than U.S. if they conduct more tests. Puritan is one of the only manufacturers in the world producing the high-quality medical swabs that are crucial for rapid testing.
Addressing the gathering, Trump said, “We will be well over 20 million tests. Remember this, when you test more, you have more cases.”
He further added, “I say to my people every time we test; you find cases because we do more testing. If we have more cases, if we wanted to do testing in China or in India or other places, I promise you there would be more cases… you are doing a fantastic job in getting out the swabs.”
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, India reported 9,851 fresh cases and 273 casualties. It is the 3rd consecutive days when India recorded more than 9,000 cases in a day.
Maharashtra, the worst hit State, recorded 2,739 fresh cases today and 120 casualties. With this, the total number of cases in Maharashtra have surged to 82,968 and there have been 2,969 casualties. Of these, 47,354 cases have been from Mumbai. Tamil Nadu is the second worst hit State with 30,152 cases and 251 casualties. The State reported 1,458 fresh cases today. The national capital of Delhi, the third in the list of worst hit places, recorded 1,320 fresh cases today and 53 casualties. Delhi has a total of 27,654 cases and 708 casualties.
With 378 fresh cases, Karnataka’s tally is now at 5,213 and there have been 59 casualties. Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) reported 370 fresh cases and 11 casualties. The total number of cases have now crossed the 10,000 mark and there have been 268 casualties. Kerala reported 108 case, taking the total tally to 1,029.
In other developments, the Chief Minister of Delhi – Arvind Kejriwal said there is no shortage of beds for critical COVID-19 patients in Delhi and that no patient with symptoms of the outbreak should be turned away by the hospitals.
Taking it to twitter, Kejriwal tweeted,
As of today, no dearth of beds. Against 8645 total available beds, 4038 occupied n 4607 vacant. These are real beds, not mere figures. As of today, sufficient beds available. But some of them refuse admission. We won’t permit their mischief. Give us a few days. We r at it https://t.co/z8SGrRXeiO

In order to keep an eye on hospitals and to curb the black marketing of beds, Kejriwal said that a medical representative of Delhi Government will be placed at every hospital. It will be his duty to help patients on bed availability and getting them admitted to the hospital.

Issuing a stern warning to hospitals practicing black marketing of beds, Kejriwal said, “Some hospitals are denying admission to COVID-19 patients. I am warning those who think they will be able to do black-marketing of beds using the influence of their protectors from other parties, you will not be spared.”
He even warned that healthcare system in the national capital will collapse if thousands of asymptomatic people queued up for testing. He said testing should be for only those who show symptoms.
