Meghan, the wife of Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex has revealed in a shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey that her life in the British Royal Family was so stressful that at times she thought of ending her life.
In a very personal Television Interview, Meghan told Oprah, American talk show host, television producer, actress, author and philanthropist that she did not get any help from the British Royal Family whenever she asked for it.
When asked if she ever thought of self-harm, Meghan said, “Yes. This was very, very clear. Very clear and very scary. I didn’t know who to turn to in that.”
She also said, “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought. And I remember how he (Harry) just cradled me.”
The 2-hour interview has already been aired in the United States (U.S.). It is scheduled to air in United Kingdom (U.K.), today, i.e., Monday, March 8, 2021 on ITV and 21:00 hours local time. Notably, Prince Harry and Meghan have not been paid for this interview.
The interview will also see Meghan sharing her feelings on racism, mental health, their relationship with the media and Royal Family dynamics.
Meghan said that the turning point came when Prince Harry was asked by a Royal Family member, “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be. Meanwhile, they are expecting their second child, which is a girl, this summer.
When asked that why the Royal Family didn’t make her son Archie a prince, Meghan told Oprah that
the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children do not automatically become princes or princesses because of a rule that has been in place since 1917 – unless the Queen wishes to.
Meghan added, “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time so we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”
Prince Harry also refused to name the Royal Member who had said that. Prince Harry told Oprah, “That conversation, I am never going to share.”
Meghan even said that this was not directly communicated to her. It was Prince Harry who was informed and he later shared it with Meghan.
Meghan said she started feeling lonely when restrictions were placed on what she could do and what not. Prince Harry told Oprah that none of his relatives spoke out in support of Meghan following the racism which she faced from the media. Harry, who is 6th in line to the throne, said there is a culture of suffering in silence in the royal family.
Meghan said, “I came to understand that not only was I not being protected but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.”
Talking about his relations with other members of the family, Prince Harry said that while he shares a good relationship with his grandmother – The Queen, his relationship with his father has not been very good.
While Harry also said he will always love his father, “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened.” He said he often felt “let down” by his father.
The couple had officially stepped down from their royal duties a year back in March 2020 and had moved to California. Shockingly, Prince Harry also revealed that his father, Charles – Prince of Wales, stopped taking his calls when he wanted to step back. Harry also revealed that his family had cut him off financially at the beginning of last year, after the couple announced their intention to step back as senior royals.
