Ursula announced new financial aid of € 200 million to support Ukrainians who got displaced due to Russia’s attack
The President of European Commission – Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new financial aid of € 200 million to support the people of Ukraine, who got displaced due to Russia’s attack.
The announcement was made at the International Donor’s Conference, hosted by Poland and Sweden, in cooperation with the President of the European Commission and the European Council.
Taking it to twitter, Ursula tweeted,
Today we came together with a clear purpose: to support the brave people of Ukraine.

With this new pledge we tell the people of Ukraine: your fight is our fight. We are with you.

The funds will help in reconstructing Ukraine. The right investments and the right reforms will not only help build the country anew but will also help Ukraine advance on its European path. She also thanked Poland for its solidarity towards Ukraine refugees. Last week, the E.U. released € 3.5 billion to support Member States in hosting refugees.
During the conference, she said that the bravery and sacrifices of the Ukrainian people is unmatchable. Since the start of Russian invasion, the European Union (E.U.) has mobilised € 4 billion in financial support for Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Poland – Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland raised U.S. $ 6.5 billion during the conference. These were raised in donations from countries and businesses, many of whom attended in person and others who made their pledges remotely. Countries such as France, Finland, the Czech Republic, Croatia and others pledged millions of euros to support humanitarian and military efforts in Ukraine. Ukraine has received more than U.S. $ 12 billion in weapons and financial aid.
Morawiecki said that Ukraine needs over 12,000 tons of humanitarian aid every day, but it’s getting only 3,000 tons of aid a day. Around 8 million people, 2/3rd of whom are children, have been internally displaced since the beginning of Putin’s war in Ukraine. More than 5.3 million have left Ukraine to seek shelter in the E.U. and neighbouring countries.
Earlier in March 2022, the European Commission convened a global pledging event with Canada, which raised € 9.1 billion in support for people fleeing the bombs inside and outside Ukraine.
The E.U. is working on an ambitious recovery package. It should bring the massive investment needed to rebuild, implement reforms and make Ukraine an attractive place for investments.
