New Delhi, Jan 8 In a scathing attack on the Modi government, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said she would work with like-minded political parties to ensure ruling BJP’s defeat in the next election as this government is involved in maximum marketing and minimum delivery.
Gandhi, chairperson of Congress Political Party, said there was a need to restore India to its democratic, inclusive, secular, tolerant and economically progressive path.
She alleged that the government was orchestrating violence against minorities to polarise society for narrow political gains.
Such kind of atmosphere was seen in both UP and Gujarat and again this will be see in Karnataka, which will go to polls this year.
“It has been almost four years since this government came to power. This has been a period in which institutions that are at the foundation of our democracy have come under systematic assault—Parliament itself, the judiciary, media and civil society. Investigative agencies have been let loose against political opponents,” Gandhi said while addressing the meeting of Congress Political Party.
“An all-pervasive atmosphere of fear and intimidation has been created. Liberal, secular and democratic traditions are being wantonly damaged. The pluralistic nature of our society—which has been its strength for centuries—is being eroded,” she added.
Taking a dig on Modi’s policies, Gandhi said that this government’s recycled the schemes launched in the UPA government with a new name.
“This government announces what it calls new programmes and initiatives ever sooften, unveiling them with the flourish of a magician. In reality, they are simply recycled schemes that were launched during the UPA government. But this seems to be a game of Maximum Publicity, Minimum Government, or put another way, Maximum Marketing, Minimum Delivery,” she said.
Declaring that Congress president Rahul Gandhi was her boss too, she said the process to revive the party’s fortunes had begun
“As for myself, as Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, I will work with the Congress President and other colleagues in discussions with like- minded, political parties to ensure that in the next election, the BJP is defeated and India is restored to a democratic, inclusive, secular, tolerant and economically progressive path,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi said that today minorities feel unsafe and are being subjected to barbarous attacks.
“Dalits have come under renewed and widespread atrocities,as have women. In manycases this violence, specially against minorities and dalits is not sporadic or random, but orchestrated to polarize our society for narrow political gains,” the chairperson said.
