It has been reported that at least two suicide attackers have attacked a Methodist Church in Quetta, capital of Balochistan province of Pakistan. At the time of attack over 400 people were attending Sunday service in the church.
A suicide bomber attacked the gate of the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church. In the ensuing chaos a second attacker opened fire with automatic weapon upon worshipers, before being neutralised by security forces. Increased security provided by local police prevented a larger casualty by denying undetected entry to the attackers.
Dawn reported that the two attackers — who officials believe to have been between 16 and 20 years of age — had strapped 15 kilogrammes of explosives to their bodies. One successfully detonated his explosive vest, while the other was defused. Those present inside the church included a large number of Women and Children.
The Bethel Memorial Church in the restive Baluchistan has been the target of a terrorist attack in the past. Security had been beefed up for the church after the last attack, which occurred a few years ago. The church is located in the city’s high-security zone
