Anglo-Iranian Confrontation and Brexit

the Brits, hoping to be proud rulers of their destiny are today being mocked by Iran, used by US, are without a leader and are facing a falling currency and diminishing trade.

It all started with the slowdown of 2008, the European Union started facing its existential questions. Then on 23 Jun 2016, little more than half of all UK decided to leave the Economic Zone in favour of greater sovereignty and better border controls.

As it turned out to be, the Brits, hoping to be proud rulers of their destiny are today being mocked by Iran, used by US, are without a leader and are facing a falling currency and diminishing trade.

While all of these might look like separate issues, they are all inexplicably linked to one specific factor, unemployment in English heartland.

The fall of ‘Remain’ in 2016

and Brexit became a reality

Of the 46,501,241 registered voters only 33,551,983 decided to have a say. The remain was defeated by 1,269,501 votes.

The question on how Brits will be positioned in world order was decided by a narrow margin of 2.7% of electorate. While some (including ourselves) question the reasoning for allowing such great changes by simple majority, the fact remains that its how Britain decided everything since the days of Magna Carta.

The Feudal Feud in post referendum UK

In an true never say never spirit Remain leaders persisted. As Brexit complications unfolded Leave leaders disappeared. However bound by the result of referendum the Theresa May tried to get a deal ratified by British Parliament. Nothing has worked. Scottish and Irish have a deep discontent with the English, the Conservative Party has lost its majority in 2017 General Elections and the Prime Minister, having been sniped by members of her own party is now waiting for her own replacement.

Theresa Amy has quit as leader of conservative party in Parliament, is waiting for her replacement to be the next PM

Precarious diplomacy of UK

UK desperately needs to make up for loss of trading partnership with EU members. With the possibility of a no-deal Brexit almost becoming reality, the nation is looking everywhere to find partners for survival.

With the top two economies in trade war, British anglophiles sided with the cousins across the Atlantic.

The British action in Persian Gulf

Grace 1 was stormed by British Royal Marines and captured on charges of transporting crude to Syria

It started with seizure of Iranian Oil Tanker Grace 1 near Gibraltar. UK was way out of league to take this action. The pretext was an embargo on Syria for Oil exports by EU. We call this pretext as the UK (which does want to have anything with EU) is imposing Brussels’s will to stop exports by limiting imports of crude. There has never been a ban on anything being exported to Syria.

Furthermore the same British might never acted against ISIS when they used the same refineries to export refined oil though Turkey.

This was an attempt to create a embargo on Iran on behest of the US.

Brexit and USA

While looking West, with nothing to bargain, UK is at mercy of Washington. By using Royal Marines instead of 5th fleet elements, Pentagon tried to impose its will on Tehran. British were found wanting to please their ‘remaining friends’ and ended up doing Trump’s dirty bidding.

The Iranian reaction to British Action

Iran declared its course of action almost immediately after the seizure of Grace 1. Iran tried to seize British vessels at least thrice before succeeding in towing Stena Impero to its waters.

Stena Impero was captured by Iranian Forces on charges of hitting a fishing boat

The Iranians are openly comparing the two incidents. “Unlike the piracy in the Strait of Gibraltar, our action in the Persian Gulf is to uphold int’l maritime rules,” Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter.

Options before UK

While the hawks in both London and in Washington may conjure any number of warlike possibilities, the fact is that the British population is not ready for war, at the least not for feeding into Trump’s arrogance.

It will be a diplomatic solution in which both Grace 1 and Stena Impero will be released. Some of the crew will loose their licences on trumped up charges by Authorities and life will go on.

What will result from the confrontation is further fall of London’s diplomatic grace on all negotiation tables. It might also raise question on British outpost in Gibraltar.

Irrespective it was an utterly a foolish move to get into an international incident when inhabitants of Downing street are packing
