When everything appears to be failing BJP appears to believe in ‘Rama sharanam gachchami’. Ram Mandir is back. But first a brief revision of the recent past. In 2014 BJP came to power with a strong current of Anti-Incumbency. For all his bravado in his last pree briefing as Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh proved to be weak Indian decision maker, may be even weaker than IK Gujral. To win the electoral battles all BJP did was to put up a face that dragged Congress into dabbling with communal politics – polarization on communal lines always helped BJP.
The strategy worked, the more congress talked of the communal threat, the more Modi voiced his opinion on development and corruption. Congress got the polarized Hindu’s to vote for BJP and BJP secured an urban middle class with good governance promises.
That was all three and half years ago. The cultural disruptions cause by GST has not become a sore point for the BJP led government. With growth lowering and unemployment rising, masses are already weary of ‘acche din’ promises. BJP just lost a bi election in Punjab and things are not looking too good in Gujarat. In Himanchal – congress thinks it has a fighting chance.
The disruptions by GST, are neither unexpected nor their political cost was discounted, so the big question was – what’s BJP’s game plan. For a while it did’nt seem to have one. Now it turns out the plan was the only ‘outsider’ of BJP – Subramanian Swamy.

With bans on crakers, jalikattu and others, enough pressure has been built to declare almost a billion hindus to be a endangered specie. An act of defiance with scientific proof is all that is required to put angry men with bhagwa on street.
With party and Modi carrying on the market reforms, bhagwan Ram can easily rescue BJP’s political futures and once the disruptions are over in next year or so Modi will be back to his electorate with massive growth and Ram Mandir, thereby repeating the 2014 mix and winning all over. Again.
