60 infected 1 dead in India by COVID-19, government forced to take desperate measures
In view of COVID19 spread, the government of India has suspended all existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/International Organizations, employment, project visas, stand suspended till 15th April 2020. This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on 13th March 2020 at the port of departure.
Even the Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel have been informed that they can be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days on their arrival in India and that they have been advised from undertaking travel to India in the first place.
In India there have been 73 infected and One dead from Corona Virus so far
Also states have been given wide ranging powers under Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, granting wide ranging lock down and quarantine powers
Karnataka became the first state to invokes sections of Epidemic Diseases Act
After a person suspected of carrying the virus removed himself from medical facility in Kalaburagi case, the application of the act now gives powers to the state to act if a patient or his family refuses to cooperate in being quarantined or tested.
Meanwhile World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the disease as a Pandemic. WHO Director-General said “WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.”

US too has barred travel from EU countries, while Angela Markel has said that she expects 60% to 70% of Germany to be infected by the Virus.
