High turnout, well above 68% in Gujarat elections

A high percentage of voters have registered their choices at polling booth across Gujarat in first phase of state assembly elections. As per chief electoral officer B B Swain the voting percentage is well on its way to cross the 68% mark

Voting is started early in 89 constituencies of south Gujarat and Saurashtra in the first phase of Gujarat assembly elections. 21.2 million voters are registered and are eligible to cast their votes. The Election Commission has set up 24,689 polling. The Voters have decided fate of 977 candidates, including incumbent Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP State president Jitu Vaghani.
Voting started at 8 a.m. with lines forming outside polling stations giving hopes of a large turnout before the polling stations shut at 6 p.m. Elaborate security measure have been taken in the 18 Districts.

A second phase of elections is scheduled on December 14. The results will be declared on December 18 along with the Himanchal Pradesh election results.
